El Problema del Pesebre en La Moneda

Uno de los renovados focos de interés de la teoría política liberal ha sido la forma en que los estados despliegan símbolos religiosos en el uso de su capacidad expresiva, es decir, sin coerción. ¿Son estas formas de establecimiento religioso simbólico permisibles en un estado formalmente separado de la iglesia? Esta pregunta es pertinente para el caso chileno, donde la autoridad conmemora una serie de ritos religiosos al interior del palacio de gobierno, siendo la instalación de un pesebre gigante de Navidad el que genera más resistencia en una fracción de la creciente población de ateos, agnósticos y no creyentes en general. Este artículo recurre a la recientemente influyente teoría del “secularismo mínimo” de Cecile Laborde para concluir que el pesebre en La Moneda solo es políticamente relevante si envía un mensaje de exclusión cívica a una identidad vulnerable y subordinada, lo que es difícil de argumentar desde la perspectiva de sus críticos.
