O problema do presépio no Palácio de La Moneda

Resumo

Um dos focos renovados de interesse na teoria política liberal é a maneira como os estados exibem símbolos religiosos no uso de sua capacidade expressiva, ou seja, sem coerção. Essas formas de estabelecimento religioso simbólico são permissíveis em um estado formalmente separado da igreja? Essa questão é relevante para o caso chileno, onde a autoridade comemora uma série de rituais religiosos dentro do palácio do governo, sendo a instalação de um gigantesco presépio de Natal a que gera mais resistência em uma fração da crescente população de ateus, agnósticos e não-crentes em geral. Este artigo baseia-se na recente teoria do “secularismo mínimo” de Cecile Laborde para argumentar que a manjedoura de La Moneda só é politicamente relevante se enviar uma mensagem de exclusão cívica a uma identidade vulnerável e subordinada, questão difícil de provar neste caso.
