Abstract

This work aims to debate the concept of Realpolitik inserted in the scope of the Second World War, especially in the figures of Joseph Stalin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Adolf Hitler. Realpolitik enables the leader to appreciate the survival of his state. We sought to understand the extent to which Hitler's adherence to the concept was important to the outcome of World War II. We will use the qualitative bibliographic methodology as a research source, accessing works in Portuguese and English. Another constitutive pillar of this article is the innovative Tripolarity Theory developed by Randall Schweller, whose basic premise indicates the United States, Germany and the Soviet Union as the three poles of world power in the 1930s. Realpolitik will be inserted in Schweller's Theory for the best understanding of the reasons for the German defeat in 1945. In the end, we realized that Hitler conducted his foreign policy from the convenience of his own interests.
