a comparative analysis of post-2016 crisis diagnoses

Given the growing concern about the quality and future of contemporary democracies, international academic production has increasingly focused on the topic of the democratic crisis. As a result, there has been a considerable interest in analyzing and comparing the different diagnoses proposed by various authors on this phenomenon. This article is part of this context by proposing a comparative analysis of the diagnoses of the democratic crisis elaborated by Adam Przeworski, Chris Thornhill, David Runciman, Larry Diamond and Manuel Castells after the events of 2016. The objective is to identify and compare the authors' approaches to the topic, seeking patterns and divergences. For this, an exploratory bibliographic research was carried out, using a qualitative approach. The results indicate that although there is a consensus on the existence of a crisis, the proposed causes and solutions vary considerably, reflecting the different democratic traditions of each author. It is concluded that the crisis of democracy is multifaceted, influenced by factors such as populism, the wear and tear of institutions and political polarization.
